Sustainability is a core value at Coffee Wagera

At Coffee Wagera, social responsibility is not a project, but a way of doing business. Social responsibility means caring for our people, our surroundings, our city/country and our environment.

Sustainability is one of our core values and an essential part of social responsibility. Some of our low-waste practices include:

  1. Free drinking water at all dine-in locations, to reduce waste from plastic bottles. This also means letting go of the potential profits from selling water bottles.
  2. 10% discount when customers takeaway their beverage in a reusable mug, to discourage the use of single-use paper/plastic cups.
  3. Liquid sugar option at all dine-in locations to reduce waste from sugar sachets.
  4. Discouraging the excessive use of napkins.
  5. Discouraging the use of straws.
  6. Credit card receipts are not given until customers ask, to save paper waste.
  7. Used coffee ground goes into our plants or saved for customers to collect.
  8. Used water from the coffee machine goes to our plants.
  9. Old/used uniforms (t-shirts, caps, hoodies) are given away to charity, instead of throwing away.
  10. Printed loyalty cards were replaced with an app.
  11. We don’t print business cards.
  12. Our staff uses reusable cloth bag when shopping for grocery.

Few other initiatives related to sustainability and low-waste:

  1. We have a message on our takeaway cups that reads:

Please bring your own takaway mug next time to reduce waste and get 10% off. Better still, consider dine-in, instead of takeaway.

  1. We have done a few plantation campaigns with help from Urban Forest team, where we took our staff members to plant trees at the Clifton location.
  2. We have done a few projects with Garbage Can to increase awareness about recycling.

What can you do, especially when visiting any café or restaurant:

  • Avoid buying water sold in plastic bottles, as much as possible.
  • Tell them not to add straws to your beverage unless asked.
  • Use minimum amount of napkins, if at all.
  • Only order what you can finish; finish whatever you order.
  • Tell them not to print your copy of the card slip.

Every small action counts.
